Culinary region South Tyrol and cuisine in Ritten

The South Tyrolean kitchen is considered a good mix of traditional, long-established recipes with mediterranean influence.

The South Tyrolians lay great emphasis on the quality of food. Most of the ingredients are taken directly from the personal garden or from surrounding farms. Important there: the food has to be fresh, regional, organic and seasonal. For that reason South Tyrol is a perfect travel destination for those who enjoy great food with high quality. The alpine kitchen has much to offer such as dumplings in different variations, stuffed ravioli, juicy meat dishes or sweets such as apple strudel and sweet fritters. The popular 'Marende' (cold afternoon snack) consists of South Tyrolean bacon and 'Kaminwurzen' (smoked sausages), different sorts of cheese, farmers bread, 'Schüttelbrot' and sun-ripened vegetables, some fresh and others pickeled.

The region is also well known for exquisite wines, fruity organic apple juices and various grappas who make the hearts flatter. A fertile soil, many days of sunshine and the passion for fruit- and winegrowing passed on over generations result into first-class wines and juices which are internationally awarded. Historic farmer's taverns, beautiful inns and on the other hand modern restaurants invite you to enjoy the traditional kitchen of the Region.

Autumn in South Tyrol comes along with a tradition called “Törggelen”. Different inns and 'Buschenschenken' provide young wines and self-made delicacies – directly from the farm – to be tried by their customers. The different inns look forward to seeing you at your next visit.
Let yourself spoil by the autumn sun and watch the hard-working farmers when bringing in their harvest. Whenever you decide to come to South Tyrol there is something you can count on: hospitality is high on the South Tyroleans list of priorities and regional delicacies for your gourmet will transform your holidays on the farm into something special.
