Freud Promenade

The most popular hiking trail on the Ritten is the Freud Promenade. It takes around 1.5 hours to walk from Oberbozen to Klobenstein with a difference in altitude of 125 metres. It is named after the famous founder of psychoanalysis, Dr Sigmund Freud, who spent his holidays on the Ritten in the summer of 1911 and often stayed there. Sigmund Freud found Ritten "divinely beautiful and cosy" even back then. Young and old, children and families with pushchairs can hike along this beautiful promenade no. 35. This hiking trail is in high season all year round. There are also refreshment stops along the way.
From our farm, the Untertrotnerhof, it's just a few minutes' walk to the centre of this unique hiking trail.

Especially in summer, when the temperatures in the Bolzano valley basin rise significantly, it is pleasantly cool on the Ritten. Beautiful summer holiday homes line the path along the Freudpromenade. After Lichtenstern, the route continues briefly along a tarmac path to the beautiful Viehweiderhof farm and continues flat to Klobenstein. Along the way, nature shows itself with ripe raspberries and wild strawberries as well as flowers, streams and trees. New benches invite you to take a break. The unique panoramic view of the Dolomites - the massive Sciliar, the legendary Catinaccio and Latemar - never ceases to amaze hikers, who can take photos of the experience.
On the way back, we can decide whether to hike back on foot, or you can return to Oberbozen by Ritten narrow-gauge railway.
